5 Weekend Trips From Amsterdam

Amsterdam is such a beautiful city and there is no shortage of things to do and see here. One huge benefit of living here is being so close to so many interesting places. If you live in Amsterdam or are just travelling through, check out our guide for 5 easy weekend trips away.

Pro Tip: Book train tickets at least a month in advance to maximise your savings.

Paris

  • Distance from Amsterdam: 3.5 hours via Thalys train
  • Price: From €35 each way but book well in advance
  • Hotel Price: Average to expensive

We love Paris! Eat baguettes, drink wine under the Eiffel Tower. See the Moulin Rouge, stuff your face with Montmartre cheese. Maybe even fit in time to see the Mona Lisa? You can do it all in a weekend and the train ride from Amsterdam Central couldn’t be easier.

Antwerp

  • Distance from Amsterdam: 2.5 hours via Intercities train
  • Price: From €20 each way
  • Hotel Price: Average

Think Belgian chocolates and world class beer in a trendy and not at all pompous city, Antwerp has it all. Marvel at central station and say hello to the flamingoes behind it at the zoo. A lighthearted weekend of fun is coming your way!

Cologne

  • Distance from Amsterdam: 2 hours via ICE train
  • Price: From €25 each way but book in advance
  • Hotel Price: Average

Easily the most impressive cathedral in the world. Hearty German grub and only 2 hours away from home, yes please!

Berlin

  • Distance from Amsterdam: 1 hour via EasyJet flight or 6 hours via ICE train
  • Price: From €35 each way
  • Hotel Price: Average

Stay near Alexanderplatz and have an über time in Berlin. It’s up to you whether you go historical and solemn with a sight seeing tour washed down with Bavarian beer or enjoy hardcore clubbing in an abandoned missile silo. Berlin rocks baby and what you see here is absolutely what you get!

London

  • Distance from Amsterdam: 1 hour via EasyJet flight
  • Price: From €35 each way but be ready to pay that much again to get into the city
  • Hotel Price: Expensive

My absolute favourite big city in the whole world. A weekend is of course nowhere near long enough but it’s a great opportunity to see a show down the West End or join in the throngs of tourists visiting the iconic landmarks. Take in a visit to the free museums and ride the tube around like a local!

Make sure you go and say G’day to the Queen!
